Hurricanes to host Mounties on Friday night

November 21, 2018

The Holland Hurricanes men’s and women’s basketball teams are at home this week, for a rare Friday evening matchup, when they host the Mount Allison Mounties at the Holland College Centre for Community Engagement. Tip-off in the women’s game is at 6pm with the men to follow at 8pm.

The women’s Hurricanes sit in a tie for third in the ACAA standings with a 3-3 record; they are coming off back-to-back wins last weekend at home versus the Dal AC Rams and UKC Blue Devils. The Mounties, the defending ACAA Champions, enter play in second place in the ACAA with a 4-2 record. This will be the first meeting between these teams this season.

As a team, the Hurricanes have averaged 74.5 points per game which is good for second in the conference. Lexi MacInnis has led the way for the Hurricanes offensively, she sits in second in the ACAA, averaging 16.5 points per game while Ashley Plaggenhoef is in fifth, averaging 13.8 points per game.

The men’s Hurricanes are a perfect 6-0 to start the season and sit atop the ACAA standings. They are coming off wins against the Dal AC Rams and UKC Blue Devils last weekend at home, while the Mounties are part of a three-way tie for second at 4-2. This is the first of three meetings between the Hurricanes and Mounties this season.

The Hurricanes high octane offense is currently averaging 114 points per game, which is sizeably greater than the rest of the competition in the ACAA. They’ve been led by Jace Colley who leads the conference in scoring, averaging 26.3 points per game, while Martin Campbell is in third with 17.8 per game.

Friday’s theme is “Rivalry Night” at the Centre for Community Engagement.  The evening will feature performances by the Hurricanes Dance Team, half-time competitions to win prizes including pizza from Domino’s, and a residence challenge between the two Holland College residences, with the building with the highest percentage attendance, winning a pizza party.

This Friday evening, be loud and cheer on your Hurricanes by grabbing a noise-maker on your way into the CCE – a limited number will be available to the first fans through the doors.

Both games will be live streamed at www.acaatv.cafor those that cannot attend the game in person.
